From a very early age, ròisìn was meant to be a musician.
It may be apocryphal, but it is said that Ro was singing before she spoke. Most of her household knew that when she was a young child she would sing herself to sleep at night with songs she heard on the radio, the TV, or on record albums the family played. Often times, if she didn’t know the words to a song, she would simply make them up, even inventing words to fill the spaces she didn’t know.
As she grew, music was always a part of the life of Ròisìn, and the old antique player piano - minus the scroll mechanism - was her canvas. She would plink out melodies she had heard, learning to play by ear and memory, and even began to experiment with playing harmonies and counterpoint. Eventually, she became involved in music in school, singing in the choir, playing trombone in the band, and would a part of marching band, orchestra, jazz band, and more.
Ròisìn would go on to earn a degree in Music History and Literature from the Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music, and specialized in Early Music - the music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. As a member of the Collegium Musicum, an early music ensemble, she learned to play the recorders, crumhorns, viol de gamba, harp, and to also sing in the dialects of Old and Middle English as well.
It only was a matter of time before she discovered reenactments and found her place in the world of Renaissance Festivals and Medieval Faires. She has been a cast member, a musical director, and assistant director, an entertainment director, and, of course, an independent musical performer on the circuit.
Ròisìn has been a part of multiple recording projects, having appeared on over 20 different sound recordings, has composed dozens of songs in the folk and folk rock styles, has contributed to the success of many festivals and events across the nation, has performed in two dozen states and 6 countries in Europe.
Ro’s one true passion is to bring the magic of music to all who hear her, put smiles on their faces, a dance in their step, and joy in their hearts.
